OBCR Staffers’ Favorite Kicks: Shoe Review

OBCR Staffers’ Favorite Kicks: Shoe Review

It’s been well established that we here at Outward Bound Costa Rica love our gear. Recently it seems we can’t stop talking about our favorite shoes. Check out some of the staff’s favorite kicks below.

Bethany Skipper, External Relations Manager, has become quite addicted to her running shoes. The Brook’s Pure Project offers an array of great shoes, including minimalist, trail and road shoes. Bethany’s favorite for long road runs is the Brook’s PureFlow. At only $90, she picked up two pair of these to get her through marathon training and she loves their lightweight feel (only 7.5 ounces) and bright, bold colors.

Custom Course Manager Allison Bates purchased a pair of Salomon’s XR Crossmax last year for hoofing it in Costa Rica’s varied terrain. She found the shoes to be wonderful in comfort and durability. After excessive use they are about ready to be retired, however the shoes served Allison so well she is already thinking about investing in her second pair! She likes the new XR Mission CS, said to be excellent for trekking in muddy, wet and cold conditions.

Before moving to the thick of the rainforest to work for Outward Bound, Marketing and Social Media Manager, Allison Hodsdon decided she had to reinvest in some serious, durable hiking boots. In the end, she went with a mid-cut model by La Sportiva and cannot say enough about the quality and fit. The gortex lining and Vibram soles make it a perfect boot to handle the mud and water while trekking through the jungle. Beyond the basics, the model Allison purchased has Flex Control technology which gives them an amazing fit– she skipped the uncomfortable “breaking in” phase all together and have used them on many different terrains sin problema!
