Tri-Country Update Oct 23

They did it!!! Our tenacious Tri-Country students hiked all the way across Costa Rica. The group started their trek from the Caribbean Coast in September. They spent some nights with homestay families and others camping under the stars. They’ve learned about  indigeous life, banana and coffee plantations, Costa Rican food and culture, cloud forests and rainforests. With the help of their instructors, they processed sugar cane and rappelled down a 60-foot waterfall.  Finally, on Wednesday, they completed their cross-country hike and plunged their feet into the Pacific Ocean at Playa del Rey.

The group returned to base for a quick transition day of cleaning and packing gear, doing some laundry and taking a well-deserved trip to town to send some emails to friends and family. Friday they headed out again, this time to Nicaragua for a week of community service. While in Nicaragua, these students have been tirelessly working to build small, concrete ovens for families in a small community. These ovens are more efficient and require less wood, meaning the families will be cutting down fewer trees.

Today the group is making their way back to Costa Rica and heading to the beach for the much anticipated surf phase, as well as the chance to earn their Waterfront Lifeguarding Certifications. We are so proud of this ambitious bunch and are always excited to see pictures of their adventure. Check out our Facebook page for all course photos prior to heading out to Nicaragua!
