Girl Scouts Destinations Update: July 19, 2013

It’s officially summertime here at Outward Bound Costa Rica! Tune in to our blog on Tuesdays for updates on our Summer Adventures and Fridays for updates on our Girl Scout destinations program to hear all about our student happenings here in Costa Rica and Panama.

A Girl Scouts Video Feature

Check out this video from our Scuba and Sea Turtle Adventure #1 and Service Challenge #2 Girl Scouts outlining some of their adventures from their time here! The footage was all done by the Girl Scouts themselves as they explored Costa Rica and Panama. Take a look!

As a note for Rainforest, River, and Reef #1: The girls have been busy after their rainforest hike and homestay experience with ziplining and whitewater rafting! Once they return to base we will work on gathering photos and adding them to our Facebook page as soon as possible. Pura Vida!

Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2

Felicidades to our Chica Scouts from Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2, who have all earned their NAUI Scuba Diver Certification this past week! The girls have finished up their time exploring the oceans of Panama and doing different watersports such as wake boarding and kneeboarding. On their last day in Bocas, the students had the opportunity to dive down to a sunken fairy boat and see all types of exotic fish and coral. Today, the students are back on our rainforest base and have been ziplining through the canopies, as one last adventure!

Service Challenge #2

After finishing up their service project in Talamanca, the girls on Service Challenge #2 ventured to the Caribbean Coast of Panama to begin another service project where they worked on sea turtle conservation. The girls returned to base on Wednesday and have spent the past three days whitewater rafting on the Sarapiqui river, visiting the popular artisan market of San Jose, and ziplining through the canopies of the rainforest. Stay tuned for pictures from Service Challenge #2 early next week!

Rainforest, River & Reef #1

The girls on Rainforest, River & Reef have had an awesome time exploring the rainforest, waterfall rappelling, and learning about authentic Costa Rican culture in the Piedras Blancas community. While with their homestays in Piedras Blancas, the girls worked together to learn the art of making sugarcane and homemade tortillas. After leaving the community on Sunday, the girls traveled to Manuel Antonio. There they had the opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife at Manuel Antonio National Park and spent time learning to boogie board at Manuel Antonio’s famed beach. Since returning to base on Thursday, the girls have been getting a tour of San Jose and visiting the artisan market, ziplining through the rainforest, and spending time whitewater rafting!
