Banff Mountain Film Fest 2012

Avery Stonich sums up the Banff Mountain Film Fest 2012 entries, which passed through her hometown of Boulder, CO last week. I watched the trailers last night and they are spectacular. Included in this tour’s winners are crossing antartica unsupported, hidden tributaries of the Grand Canyon, professional climbers, skiers, and snowboarding ganging up to take on Denali, and the efforts to bring more diverse visitors to the US National Parks. If this tour comes near you, I hope you check it out and let me know how awesome it is!

A World Traveler Finds Adventure on the Path of Yoga

A World Traveler Finds Adventure on the Path of Yoga

As avid travelling yogis here in the Communications Office, we adore Katie Hagel’s philosophy. “While at Kripalu, I realized that what I love most about both yoga and adventure experiences are the opportunities they provide for self-discovery, and the meaningful connections I can make through sharing these experiences with others. For me, the yogic path and the way of the adventurer are one and the same. To walk this path, one must be willing to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and commit to living a meaningful, fulfilling life.” Who knows – maybe we’ll be doing 下犬式 [downward dog in Chinese] with her in India someday!

Boston Family Finds Riches In Arctic Adventure

A year of early retirement in the Arctic

After seeing a Ted Talk by Stefan Sagmeister, the Chen family of Burlington, Massachusettes up and moved to the small granite Norwegian island of Rødøy, jutting from the Norwegian Sea north of the Arctic Circle. The family of four took Sagmeister’s philosophy of taking a year of retirement during working years to heart. Read about their tribulations and joys on Arctic Dreams. If you haven’t heard of Sagmeister, this isn’t the first time he’s tried to shake up the world. As a graphic designer, he was noted in my classes for being a man of strident delivery based solely on his personal convictions.
