Emma and Outward Bound Costa Rica

Emma has been working with Outward Bound Costa Rica for five years. As a strong female leader, Emma is an instructor for many of our Girl Scouts destinations courses, especially those that include the rainforest trek to her hometown of Piedras Blancas. It comes as no surprise that her favorite outdoor activity is hiking and that she will be leading Girl Scouts through the rainforest this summer on our Rainforest, River, & Reef destinations course!

While she loves leading hiking expeditions, her second favorite aspect of course is whitewater rafting. Looking back on her first experience on the Sarapiqui River, she laughs about how intimidating the river was at first– It is now one of her favorite OBCR activities!

A Personal Connection With OBCR

Her interest with Outward Bound Costa Rica started years ago. Emma’s father Orlando Zamora has been working with OBCR for 11 years, which inspired her to join the team when she got older. Emma said she wanted to be just like her father and that’s where her passion for the mountains, hiking, and the overall outdoors stems from. Emma and her father enjoy opening their doors to students that visit their home in Piedras Blancas every year, showing them the local traditions and teaching them about what life is like the in the country. Learn more about the homestay experience in Piedras Blancas.

Aside from the fact that working with OBCR allows her to embrace what she enjoys doing, she also likes meeting all the different people on course, learning about different cultures, and getting the opportunity to speak English while interacting with her students. When she’s not working, Emma can be found on the Savegre River fishing, hiking, riding horses, or spending time with her family and playing with her nephews. If given the opportunity Emma would love to explore Israel and learn more about the culture there.
