Student Adventures Update: July 9, 2013

It’s officially summertime here at Outward Bound Costa Rica! Tune in to our blog on Tuesdays for updates on our Summer Adventures and Fridays for updates on our Girl Scout destinations program to hear all about our student happenings here in Costa Rica and Panama.

Rainforest Exploration Challenge

Our second group of REC students made their way to Piedras Blancas last week where they stayed with the Lopez family and several other local homestays learning all about Costa Rican culture and the art of making sugarcane! There, they also had the opportunity to test their physical strength through a waterfall rappel. Yesterday, the students left Piedras Blancas and ventured to Manuel Antonio, where they will spend their time exploring the national park, boogie boarding and enjoying the beaches!

Check out this video of homestay hosts Don Ormidas and Doña Flor talking about the students they’ve welcomed to their home and what it means to their community:

Witch’s Rock Expedition

Many of our students from the Surf & Service Adventure have continued on to build upon their recently acquired skills and are surfing at Witch’s Rock. Students left our rainforest base on Sunday and ventured to the Guanacaste Province located in the northwest part of Costa Rica. They begin their adventure by hiking through Santa Rosa National Park to arrive at this isolated surf spot. Here they are being challenged by the intense waves that Witch’s Rock offers and have set up camp on the beach.
