Summer Adventures Update: July 16, 2013

It’s officially summertime here at Outward Bound Costa Rica! Tune in to our blog on Tuesdays for updates on our Summer Adventures and Fridays for updates on our Girl Scout destinations program to hear all about our student happenings here in Costa Rica and Panama.

Rainforest Exploration Challenge

Our second group of REC students finished up their course this past weekend, and we are excited to welcome all of those on REC #3! For the past few days students have been camping alongside the trail in the rainforest and had the opportunity to swim at the base of a large waterfall as they make their way to the homes of our beloved home stays in the remote region of Piedras Blancas. Students will arrive at their first home stay tomorrow, and continue to two more throughout their journey. While at the home stays students will be immersed in authentic Costa Rican culture and have the opportunity to make tortillas and harvest sugarcane, and challenge themselves with a nearby waterfall rappel!

Panama Scuba Exploration #2

Panama Scuba Exploration 2 is underway in Bocas Del Toro, Panama! Currently the students are living in a secluded bungalow located off the coast of Solarte, a small island in Bocas. They are spending their days learning all about scuba diving and their nights enjoying the beautiful sunsets. While some of the students are working to obtain their NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver certification, others who are already certified are studying for the advanced scuba cert– These soon-to-be advanced divers have had the opportunity to challenge themselves and explore the sea even further through deep water and night dives. Aside from scuba diving, students have been participating in surfing in the mornings as well!

Witch’s Rock Surf Expedition

This weekend we said adios to all of our Witch’s Rock students! After hiking to the secluded spot in the Guanacaste province, students spent the week challenging themselves on intense waves and enjoying the secluded beach at Witch’s Rock. Stay tuned for pictures on our Facebook page later this week!
