Last week the group of six finished up their stay at our Manuel Antonio base and packed up their surfboards for their next water adventure in Avellanas. In Avellanas, instructors Carlos and Spencer assisted the group in the set-up of their tents along the sandy beaches under the Pacific sunset. For the next few days, students spent time perfecting their newly developed surf skills and bonding with their group mates in between service projects. Their service project included helping the community in the town of Pargos where they aided in cleaning school grounds by raking debris and trash and also brushing up on their “futbol” skills with the local kids.  The group finished their First Aid/CPR training by completing practical and technical skills emphasizing proper breathing techniques and First Aid response in emergency situations. Through hard work and studying, all of the students passed their test and are now officially certified in First Aid and CPR from the American Red Cross!

 

Individuals also partook in a “solo “experience on the beach where they spent a few hours to themselves reflecting on the course and their personal growth. Yesterday, they had some fun under the sun participating in their own Outward Bound surf competition old-fashioned style girls against boys. The girls prevailed in catching the best waves under the Pacific sun! Today the group returned to the rainforest base for a quick transition before they headed off to the capital city San Jose for a city tour and trip to the local Artisan market to practice their bartering skills. The group returns tonight for their final dinner and meeting and rest up for their flights back tomorrow.
