Student Updates! SSTA, SC, SHH, CSS & Custom:

This week we have five groups out on course in Costa Rica and Panama! Our Scuba & Sea Turtle and Service Challenge Girls Scouts have just a few days left of adventures with us and are returning home this Saturday. For Service, Hike & Homestay, Caribbean Scuba & Service students, and Girl Scouts Troop 32222 their adventures are just beginning! Here is what all of our groups have been up to this week:

Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure (Session #1)

After heading to Panama to help with sea turtle conservation projects in San San Pond Sak, these five girls travelled to Isla Solarte to spend a day playing, drawing, and practicing their Spanish skills with kids at a local school. Afterwards, they were met by Jim, our Executive Director and Scuba Instructor, to begin earning their scuba certifications!

Service Challenge (Session #1)

After starting their course in Talamanca, volunteering at a local elementary school planting new seeds and painting their culture classroom, these thirteen girls crossed the border to the San San Pond Sak Wetland Reserve in Panama. There they began their second service project, assisting with sea turtle conservation efforts through nightly patrols, cataloging nests, releasing newly hatched baby turtles into the wild! After a relaxing day of canoeing, the girls arrived back at our rainforest base in Costa Rica to head out rafting today on the river!

Service, Hike & Homestay (Session #1)

Twelve students arrived on Sunday for their Service, Hike & Homestay adventure! On Saturday, they pulled on their work boots to clean up reserve trails near our base for future travelers, and prepared their backpacks for a 4am departure time to begin their first day of hiking. This strong group completed their first jungle trek to the remote community of Piedras Blancas, where they learned about Costa Rican traditions from local families and rappelled an 80-foot waterfall! They’re off the grid right now, but check in next week to see what they’re up to.

Caribbean Scuba & Service (Session #1)

After settling in at our rainforest base this past Saturday, these eight students packed up their bags and headed south to cross the border into Panama. Here they began their journey to become scuba certified! They were met by Jim, Executive Director and Scuba Instructor, to begin learning and studying up for their scuba test. After a training in shallow waters, this crew is now doing full dives and even headed out at sunset to complete their first night dive surrounded by jaw-dropping bioluminescence!

Girl Scout Troop 32222

Yesterday afternoon, Girl Scouts Troop 32222 from California joined us at our rainforest base. Early this morning, they began their day long hike through Piedras Blancas to arrive at their homestay and meet their host family. Tomorrow, they will begin a service project within the local community!
