Discounts are independent of any scholarship award or outside financial assistance the student secures. Students cannot combine discounts and will be credited for the highest monetary discount eligible.
Discounts are not available for Girl Scouts Destinations or group programs, as these courses are already specialty priced at a discount.
EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT – $200 OR $500
Automatically applied towards tuition for a student who enrolls before our Early Bird signup date. Early Bird discount is $200 for summer courses and $500 for gap year or semester course.
Early Bird Deadlines:
- Spring Semester: November 15
- Summer Expeditions: April 1
- Fall Semester: July 1
ALUMNI DISCOUNT – 10% OFF
Applied towards tuition for any previous year alumnus returning for a second or subsequent course. This discount also applies to immediate family members (i.e. siblings, parents) and alumni of Girl Scouts destinations courses who enroll in an open enrollment course.
FRIENDS AND FAMILY DISCOUNT – 10% OFF
Applied towards tuition for friends or family members who enroll in a course during the same season. Students are encouraged to take different courses but must pay tuition towards courses taking place within the same year and season (fall, spring, or summer).
VETERAN’S DISCOUNT – 15% OFF
Applied towards military veterans’ tuition costs. Qualifying documentation (i.e. military discharge papers) may be required to secure discount eligibility. Not available for immediate family members.
THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS – 15% OFF
Applied towards published tuition for any OBCR course. Members of NSHSS are eligible to receive the discount. Not available for immediate family members.

Society members are eligible to apply the discount towards published tuition for any OBCR course as long as course eligibility requirements are met. Not available for immediate family members.
UWC – UNITED WORLD COLLEGE COSTA RICA – 15%
Current students and alumni of UWC Costa Rica are eligible to apply a 15% discount to the published tuition of any OBCR course as long as eligibility requirements are met. Not available for immediate family members.
Outward Bound Costa Rica offers partial scholarships to deserving students who demonstrate a financial need and/or academic merit. To apply for a scholarship, students must complete our Scholarship Application (PDF).
RECEIVE OUTSIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID
Students interested in gaining academic credit from Western State Colorado University may be able to transfer financial aid from various federal or private sources for use towards tuition costs. AMERICORPS EDUCATION AWARDS
Any students who have received an education award for his/her service and wishes to apply it towards Outward Bound Costa Rica tuition can do so by enrolling with Western State Colorado University for academic credit. WSCU accepts funds from AmeriCorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service for transfer credit. Contact WSCU’s Extended Studies Office for more information.
We currently hold a partnership with the Veteran’s Affairs Office of the United States and are able to accept educational funds for professional development courses, including our Outdoor Leader Semester.
GIRL SCOUT COUNCIL FUNDRAISING
Girl Scouts destinations students are encouraged to consult their council and/or troop regarding course financing. The majority of students who attend our destinations courses receive some financial assistance through Cookie Dough, GSUSA and Council scholarship programs, and/or their troops.
SPONSORSHIP & MATCHING GIFTS
Various philanthropic organizations may support local youth participation in Outward Bound. Contact local chapters of the American Legion, Rotary Club, or similar organizations to inquire about scholarship programs or available financial assistance.
