COURSE REGIONS: Costa Rica (San José, Cartago, Perez Zeledon and Puntarenas Provinces)

Earn 4 – 6 hours of community service as you combine unforgettable adventure with true cultural immersion in the jungles of Costa Rica. Whether you’re trekking through the lush cloud and rainforests, rafting down whitewater rivers, or zipping through the canopy, you will discover your strengths on this unforgettable adventure! On our Rainforest, River, & Reef course, you will immerse yourself in the culture with traditional family homestays, give back with a day of service in a local nature reserve, and experience everything from exploring a world-renowned beach to visiting the vibrant, bustling artisan market of San Jose.

After spending a day of service in the reserve behind our rainforest basecamp located just outside of San Jose, your journey will begin with a multi-day hiking trek into one of the most remote regions of Costa Rica. Hike and learn about wildlife and the local flora and fauna while gaining insight into the mysteries of the rainforest and the local communities. Experience a variety of homestays with local families learning about their language, culture, and way of life. Participate in some of their traditional activities such as harvesting and grinding sugarcane, making tortillas, and baking bread. Challenge yourself physically with an 80 foot waterfall rappel and build friendships as you encourage and work alongside other Girl Scouts from around the US.

At the end of your hike you will find yourself at Manuel Antonio, an idyllic Pacific coast beach where you will spend your time spotting monkeys, sloths, and tree frogs in the national park. Enjoy the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean with activities such as boogie boarding or surfing.

Finally, brave whitewater rapids and work as a team with a day of rafting. Finish your experience by exploring the treetops with a zipline canopy tour and absorbing a different side of the local “Tico” culture during a city tour and visit to the bustling artisan market of San Jose.
