Discover Costa Rica by surfing warm-water breaks on its world-renowned beaches, all while you engage in meaningful service projects to support local communities. Catch your first waves or hone your surfing skills as you paddle alongside our experienced, professional instructors and earn your American Safety and Health Institute First Aid and CPR certifications.
Whether you want to learn surfing in a fun and safe environment, or want to discover Costa Rica on a an authentic expedition, the Surf & Service Expedition is the perfect way to learn one of Costa Rica’s most iconic sports and turn your summer into an opportunity to help others.
The first week, you will help reforestation and environmental preservation in the Province of San Jose, close to our rainforest base. Then, you will leave for the Pacific north coast to get your first taste of surfing in Avellanas. Enjoy working side by side with members of the community while you work on a school project, then relax with a game of soccer against the local children. Your second week, you are off to the central Pacific coast to perfect your skills in the areas around Dominicalito.
Our remote surf camps are located on the Pacific coast, famous for its warm waters and consistent surf breaks, as well as lack of crowds. Spend your nights under the stars, and head out early to catch the morning’s idyllic water, learn how to read waves conditions, maintain equipment, and surf etiquette thanks to the holistic instruction provided by our experienced instructors.
Between surfing and performing service projects, you and your course mates will learn important life-saving techniques and the basics of lifeguarding on the warm beaches of Costa Rica. You will learn how to use your board as a rescue device, practice CPR on mannequins, study the best techniques in staying safe on both land and water and eventually earn your American Safety and Health Institute First Aid and CPR certifications.
