Summer Expeditions Update – June 23rd

Rainforest Hike & Homestay #1

image-(47)

Our Rainforest Hike & Homestay #1 students have completed their trek through the rainforest to the remote community of Piedras Blancas. The students camped along the trail before reaching homestays where they learned about Costa Rican traditions from local families.

The students learned about Costa Rican farming techniques by making sugar cane candy from scratch by hand as well as bread and cheese.

As part of this course, the students also participated in a solo experience where they spent time alone in the wilderness to gain self confidence and reflect. We are proud to say all six students successfully completed the solo experience!

On the final day of the trek, the students worked as a group to support each other on a 10-mile hike, which they completed alone as their instructors followed.

Today the students are at the beach on the Pacific Coast learning how to boogie board. Tomorrow they will explore the famed Manuel Antonio National Park to learn about local plant species and wildlife.
