Leadership students have been spending most of this past week at the beach. They started their American Red Cross Lifeguard training at a pool in Tres Ríos to learn basic rescue techniques and later went to Playa Manuel Antonio to finish up their training at the beach. Check out a video of our instructors practicing these important skills at Manuel Antonio this past summer:
But their time at our beach base was hardly all work and no play. After working toward their Lifeguard certification, students enjoyed a bit of surfing at Manuel Antonio.
They also spent time giving back at a sea turtle refuge at Playa Tulín, working directly with the endangered species and releasing them to the wild.
The students arrived back to base earlier today as they prep for their hiking phase, where they’ll be trekking through the remote rainforest and into the welcoming homestays of families in Piedras Blancas.
