Where can you find an abundance of wildlife situated only feet away from spectacular beaches? Only at Manuel Antonio. Previously known as only a large area of farmland, Manuel Antonio now boasts one of the best national parks in the world and has quickly developed into a must see here in Costa Rica. Being comprised of 90% water, Manuel Antonio is one of the only places you can find yourself exploring the tropical rainforest, and minutes later laying on a beach enjoying the views. The Manuel Antonio National Park is home to 109 mammal species and 184 bird species. Walking around the rainforests, visitors can spot sloths, frigate birds, the endangered squirrel monkeys, and many other kinds of wildlife!
Outward Bound Costa Rica students who venture to Manuel Antonio stay at the organization’s cozy beach base. Many mornings, students are woken by the sounds of los monos, or monkeys, who were swinging through the trees and scurrying across the rooftop. Visiting the nearby Manuel Antonio beach, students challenge themselves with daily surf lessons and often times visit the national park, where our instructors teach them about the diverse wildlife and ecology.
Experience Manuel Antonio with OBCR!
Many of our alumni, including our current Programming Intern Kaari, continue to talk about Manuel Antonio as one of the best parts of the course experience and truly unforgettable. This is a well-known spot for our Girl Scouts Rainforest, River, & Reef course and our Summer Adventures’ Rainforest Exploration Challenge (REC) where students learn how to surf, spend the day at the beach, and of course visit the Manuel Antonio National Park! You can also take advantage of our Customized Courses, and incorporate Manuel Antonio into your own personalized adventure.
