Vamos a Piedras Blancas! (Let’s go to Piedras Blancas!)
Our REC students have been spending the past week hiking through the mountains as they made their way to the secluded area of Piedras Blancas. There they stayed with the three of our homestays, experiencing life the way of life in the Zamora, Lopez, and Granados households. Each year the Lopez family anticipates students arrivals, as they love meeting new faces and teaching students about Costa Rican culture and the art of making homemade tortillas and harvesting sugar cane to make dulce, or sugar candy. Aside from being emerged in the authentic culture of Costa Rica, the students had the opportunity to challenge themselves physically as they took a day to hike, explore, and rapelled down waterfalls.
Up Next: Manuel Antonio!
After finishing up their hike and homestay phase yesterday, students arrived to our beach base in Manuel Antonio. This beautiful town boasts an abundance of wildlife and natural, beautiful beaches. Here the students will be spending their days at the beach and visiting the Manuel Antonio National park. At the park, they will learn about the local ecology and try to spot some of the diverse wildlife including some endangered species of monkeys, birds, sloths, and many other species of birds and animals.
Take a peek at our video that shows a bit of what Manuel Antonio has to offer!
Stay tuned for next Tuesday when we will have a wrap up post on this 14-day course, including photos from the group!
