As our Semester courses are either wrapping up or have recently finished the surfing portions of their trips, we have been thinking a lot of catching some gnarly waves. We came across this intriguing article about a young, prodigal surfer and were inspired by how much this Australian-native has accomplished in such a short period of time. He is even earning the praises from the likes of well-known pro-surfers like Kelly Slater and Taj Burrow. We can’t wait to see what becomes of Jack Robinson!

 

 

Think you’re an adventurer? Well, it seems there are adventurers and then there are adventure innovators, according to National Geographic. Each year the magazine selects people they are inspired by to award the title, “Adventurer of the Year”. Check out this year’s candidates, not to mention the awesome featured video, and vote on who you think is the most worthy of earning special recognition for their accomplishments.

 

 

Experiential learning is not only alluring but also worthwhile claims this article celebrating the accomplishments of a Yale class based on rainforest exploration. The class, called “Rainforest Expedition and Laboratory,” has recently been awarded the Prize for Inquiry-Based Instruction by Science Magazine. The new style class has inspired Yale students, even helping some to pursue certain career paths. Different from a class where most learning takes place inside a classroom, this course  is “encourag[ing] students to learn through discovery.” Way to go!
