Our Coast to Coast Expedition Semester students are back on our rainforest base today after completing course phases in Nicaragua and Panama. We posted their latest photos on Facebook and are excited to share more updates here.
In Nicaragua, the students experienced the country’s unique culture by spending time with local families, making traditional Nicaraguan food and attending a cultural dance performance.
The students also hiked up a volcano to experience stunning views of Lake Nicaragua, and toured the city of Granada.
The students enjoyed this view of Lake Nicaragua on their hike.
“Granada was a beautiful town,” said Becca P. of Needham, Mass. “It is very different from Costa Rica and I enjoyed it.”
Sea kayaking and scuba diving were part of the group’s itinerary in Panama.
In Panama, the students spent several days exploring under the sea and scuba diving. All the students successfully passed tests to earn their NAUI Scuba Diver Certification.

The night dive during this phase of the course was a favorite among the students.
“The night dive was so surreal,” said Katherine G. of Kentfield, Calif. “It was seriously the best night of my life.”
Rounding out their time in Panama, the students sea kayaked.
“Sea kayaking was beautiful but mentally tough,” said Becca P. “I thought it was really worthwhile because we went into these indigenous villages and we formed really great bonds with some of the kids,” she added.
“I really enjoyed bonding with the kids,” added Spencer B. of Tualatin, Oregon. “They were fun to play with and I learned that I really like kids.”
Tomorrow the Coast to Coast Expedition Semester students head to Playa Avellanas for surfing. Be sure to check Facebook for more updates and photos of our Coast to Coast Expedition Semester students and more.
