DAY 1
Transition from your previous course or fly to Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría Airport (SJO) where you will be greeted by our staff and be driven to our rainforest base in San Ramón de Tres Ríos, Cartago Province. Meet your new coursemates, instructors, and participate in an orientation to prepare all the gear you need for the next week at the beach. Overnight in furnished dorms.
DAY 2
After a typical Costa Rican breakfast, take a ride through the lush mountains and valleys of Costa Rica to your surf location on the expansive Pacific Coast beaches. Get a crash course in beach school, where you will learn the basics of surfboard selection, beach safety, paddling techniques, and popping up on your board. Overnight at beachfront campsite or at a tropical bungalow.
DAY 3
Catch the best morning waves as instructors teach you in-depth surf techniques. Begin practicing your new skills in the pristine and tropical waters. Notice your progress as you graduate from the whitewash to the waves, taking you from riding to ripping. Enjoy leisurely breaks between surf sessions resting peacefully under the palm trees. Overnight at beachfront campsite or a tropical bungalow.
DAY 4
Wake up for a calming sunrise beach yoga led by your instructors, followed by a surf session. Meet local leaders from the beach town and begin volunteering on community development projects. Gain an understanding of Tico culture and how your service project will be making an impact. Beyond surfing, spot exotic monkeys and sloths and enjoy the peace of this incredible jungle environment. Overnight at beachfront campsite or a tropical bungalow.
DAY 5
Between surf sessions, play a pick-up soccer game at the community field. Volunteer on a beach clean-up, and then take a short climb to a lookout point for a beautiful ocean view. When the water recedes at low tide, take a look between the rocks to find the marine life that thrives inside the coastal tide pools. In the evening, learn how to make delicious traditional Costa Rica foods, such as patacónes and empanadas, from scratch! Overnight at beachfront campsite or tropical bungalow.
DAY 6
Catch the morning surf and then hike into the lush rainforests for a refreshing swim in a natural waterfall. At night, cozy up on the beach for a bonfire under the stars—yes, of course there will be s’mores! Overnight at beachfront campsite or a tropical bungalow.
DAY 7
Wake up early to begin the journey back to Costa Rica’s Central Valley. Arrive back at the rainforest base in San Ramón de Tres Ríos for gear return, course reflection, and final dinner. Overnight in furnished dorms.
