The Communications Office is a small, collaborative team responsible for all communications, sales, marketing and customer service tasks organization-wide. Staffers are charged with increasing course participation across all target audiences and ensuring excellent customer service with regard to stakeholder communication – from prospective students, to families of students currently on course, to alumni and partners.
Job Description
The Enrollment Manager plays a crucial role in our Communications Office, a small and collaborative team that lives and works at our rainforest base here in Costa Rica. You will be responsible for successfully marketing the school and its programs, selling the courses to students and their parents, leading students through the enrollment process, and ensuring that students arrive/depart safely to/from the base.
This role focuses on essential administrative duties and external communication for the organization. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal English skills, strong attention to detail, and proven success in data entry and administrative tasks.
This position requires relocating to Costa Rica and committing to a 15-21 month contract. Desired start date is early December 2014.
The Enrollment Manager reports directly to the Communication Director.
Responsibilities of the Enrollment Manager
- Administering the enrollment and payment process and informing potential students of our course policies – including payment instructions, academic credit information and our Code of Conduct
- Actively pursuing sales by responding to all inquiries by phone and e-mail in a timely manner
- Serving as liaison between students, their families and our organization – and trouble-shooting as needed
- Managing the student enrollment database
- Assisting with sales initiatives and marketing strategies with a goal of placing 8-12 students in each of our courses
- Administering course evaluations to students and using feedback to help drive the development and improvement of future courses
- Contributing to planning/strategy meetings with the rest of the Communications team
Desired Qualifications
- Direct experience in sales and/or marketing
- Superior communication skills (Excellent written and verbal English)
- Proven customer service and administration skills
- Ability to multi-task and stay focused despite regular interruption
- Strong time management skills and attention to detail
- At least one year living, working or studying outside of home country
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred: Communications, Marketing, Outdoor Recreation, Education, or other relevant field)
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity
- Positive attitude and good work ethic
- Sense of humor
- Personal interest in the outdoors and the mission of Outward Bound
- Spanish language skills (conversational ability or above strongly preferred)
- Willingness and ability to live and work in close quarters with a small group of people
- Tenacity about traveling and/or finding personal connections in the greater San Jose area despite challenges (i.e. bad weather, limited transportation options, cultural differences, etc.)
- Experience with Salesforce (preferred)
Compensation Package
- Monthly stipend

- Access to Outward Bound Costa Rica courses and equipment for personal use
- Use of Manuel Antonio beach base when not working & when approved by the Program Director
