Today we bid farewell to our 2016 Spring Leadership Semester Students. The group spent 70 days with us, earning internationally recognized certifications and learning to become leaders while participating in challenging outdoor activities through Costa Rica and Panama.
“We just finished the three day expedition on the upper upper Pacuare river, it was probably the coolest thing we did on this trip because we were the first group from Outward Bound to run it! It was a great way to end the trip. We also cooked over a fire, slept on the beach and slept in our boats: it was surprisingly comfortable. The second day, we got to jump out of our boats and swim around; we stopped at a bunch of different waterfalls and slept on the beach again. In the morning we left really early and had a long paddle back and got to just take it slow. It was really relaxing and a great way to end the trip: it was a blast!“ Connor Hawkins from Concord, New Hampshire.
From scuba diving coral reefs in Bocas del Toro, to braving white water rapids on world-class rivers and hiking to the remote village of Piedras Blancas in Costa Rica’s Central Valley, the students pushed their limits with unique adventure activities.
Students were especially enthusiastic about the last phase of their course:
“The expedition [on the river] was something none of us really expected. We got to sleep outside in our boats we were rafting in. We built fires at night to cook on so we were really living in the nature. We made some really good food as well as smores. Just knowing we were on one of the best rivers in the world for scenery was incredible, it was just beautiful,“ said A.C. Hoover from Wilmington, North Carolina.
“We just got back from our expedition on the Upper Upper Pacuare and it was definitely the best part of the trip for me. It was a great way to end the semester. This has been a good course. There wasn’t any time that I didn’t like it or regretted coming. Some parts where harder than others, like hiking, but I definitely learned a lot here. I’m excited to go home but I will miss Costa Rica and the friends I made on this course.” said Henry Jones from Yermoth, Maine.
