Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2
The Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2 Girl Scouts spent several days in San San Pond Sak Wetland Reserve aiding in local sea turtle conservation efforts by performing night patrols and building sustainable habitats.
The group then completed NAUI Scuba Dive training while exploring the tropical waters of Panama. They reported seeing a ton of fish and enjoyed cooking on the dockside campsite on the island of Solarte.
Today the group is traveling from Panama back to our rainforest base in Costa Rica. They will spend their last two days on course getting up-close to nature and learning more about Costa Rican culture.
Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge #2
The Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge #2 group started their course in the Talamanca Region where they did service at a local elementary school, constructing a sidewalk. The school was very grateful for all the school supplies the girls donated from home.
The Girl Scouts loved playing with the children in the community and trying new fruits that the villagers shared with them. The group also got to watch tryouts for the local soccer team.
In Panama the Girl Scouts got up-close to tortugas, or sea turtles, while helping out with local conservation efforts. In their spare time they built sand castles and strolled on the beach.
Today the group is heading to the Pejibaye River for whitewater rafting.
Rainforest, River, & Reef #1
Our first session of Rainforest, River, & Reef has completed the jungle trek to the community of Piedras Blancas.
During the hike, the Girl Scouts showed a lot of enthusiasm, singing, dancing and shouting words of encouragement all day long. They have become a very tight-knit group and have all bonded.
The highlight of the hike for most of the participants was the waterfall rappel. Some of the participants were daunted by the thought of rappelling an 80-foot waterfall, but everyone completed it without hesitation and reported that it was an exciting challenge.
The Girl Scouts also enjoyed making banana bread, chocolate bread and farmers cheese with a local family at one of the homestays in Piedras Blancas.
Today the group is whitewater rafting on the Pejibaye River.
