Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #1
Our first Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure Girl Scout Destination has come to an end. The group completed their time in Panama by exploring unique underwater ecosystems while scuba diving and studying for the NAUI scuba dive test.
After traveling back to our rainforest base in Costa Rica, the Girl Scouts visited the city of San Jose to explore the district and shop for souvenirs. They visited the artisan market and spent their last hours bonding over their last dinner before flying back home the next morning.
Throughout the course the girls challenged themselves to push their limits.
“I think that I not only learned about the culture here but I also learned more about myself. It opened my eyes to a greater perspective of the world,” said Maria C. from Scarborough, Maine.
Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge #1
The Girl Scouts on our first Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge Destination spent their final days on course in Costa Rica white water rafting, zip lining, and visiting the capital of San Jose.
Yasmine C. from Lodi, New Jersey described her Outward Bound experience as, “a fun, exciting, adventurous journey with friends that will last a lifetime.”
The course allowed the girls to create a supportive environment.
Neha U. from Yorba Linda, California said, “before the course I wasn’t very outgoing and more reserved, after the course I was inspired by the course and the girls I met to do things I have never done before and more.”
This past weekend while everyone back home was celebrating our independence day with fireworks, 31 Girl Scouts arrived on base from all over the nation ready to start their adventure at Outward Bound Costa Rica. Read on to see what these scouts have been up to so far.
Rainforest, River, & Reef #1
Participants of our first Rainforest, River, & Reef Girl Scout Destination arrived this past Saturday and started off by hiking on our rainforest base in Tres Rios. They spent time getting to know one another as they helped water and plant in the community garden.
The Girl Scouts officially started their trek to the community of Piedras Blancas on Monday. During their hike they will camp and stay will local families on three different homestays. As they make their way to their final destination, Manuel Antonio National Park, they’ll make stops to rappel a waterfall, make traditional Costa Rican dishes and learn about the local culture among other activities.
Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2
The Scuba & Sea Turtle Adventure #2 Girl Scouts are ready to save baby sea turtles during the first phase of their course in the San San Pond Sak wetlands of Panama. While in Panama the Girl Scouts are learning about sea turtle conservation efforts and working on service projects with locals.
Coming up on their course the group will learn about Panamanian culture on a city tour of Bocas del Toro, zipline through the canopy and learn to scuba dive.
Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge #2
At the start of their course, the Costa Rica & Panama Service Challenge #2 Girl Scouts teamed up with the participants on Rainforest, River & Reef #1 to help out in our garden here on our rainforest base.
The group then traveled to the region of Talamanca where they are learning about the indigenous BriBri people and contributing to service projects in the local community. As they continue with their service projects they will continue to learn more about the cloud forest, eco-tourism and history of Talamanca.
This weekend they will travel to Panama to aid in local sea turtle conservation projects.
