The Leadership crew has been hard at work on the river. Last week they headed to the Río Pejibaye to start learning about whitewater rescue techniques from our river expert Phil Perez. After plenty of studying and practice, the group took their written and practical exams to finish up their Whitewater Rescue Technician training.
After several days on the same river, it was time to check out something new. Well equipped with their newly learned rescue skills, it was time to tackle the Río Savegre. This time students started learning just what it takes to guide a raft down rockin’ rapids as they began their raft guide training. Later in the course, the group will re-visit their rafting skills when they head to the Río General for some more guide practice.
For now, the students are excited to finally be heading to the beach. This week they’ll work on their Waterfront Lifeguarding certification and enjoy some surfing.
