At OBCR we strive to inspire and challenge our students both mentally and physically through exciting adventures as well as service-focused expeditions. Keeping in that theme, this week’s Links We Like are all about individual who push their limits while supporting great causes:
Andy Campbell lost his legs during a climbing accident, but his willpower and passion for adventure is far too strong for anything to hold him back. His condition has allowed him to see the world in a whole new way and has inspired him to travel east across Europe and Asia, cross the Pacific Ocean into Alaska, and end at the very tip of Chili using kayaks, handcycles, and paragliders. He hopes to inevitably raise £1 million for his foundation, the Chutkara Initiative, which provides outdoor gear for the physically challenged. By constantly blogging on his website and updating his Facebook page, Andy plans on keeping everyone in the loop about his travels, and even asks for advice on where he should stop on the way!
Six guys, 900 miles, and roughly 70 days: Kyle Terry, Ben Woods, Henry Cordeal, Jess Hernandez, Chris Martella, and Andrew Hubb have commenced their never before attempted 900 mile trek to the Artic via canoe. They will be faced with rowing upstream on the intense Morse River, crossing through the frozen Lake Dubwnt, and many other challenges throughout their expedition. They hope to inevitably provide useful research for scientists as they collect water samples from different parts of their journeys, to show processes that affect the water types in different parts of the world.
Richard and Stani Velomand left their home in France and have been traveling the world for the past eight years via bicycle. While they have faced dangers and hardships throughout their journeys, nothing has stopped them from continuing their travels. As they go from country to country via Bicycle they are not only interacting with new cultures and having amazing expiriences, but they are aiming to help raise awareness of climate change and environmental issues across different parts of the world. Their hope is to bring change and help motivate people to make lifestyle changes by realizing the impact their actions have one the environment.
