We can’t get enough of hearing about epic journeys done by relatively ordinary people with extraordinary ideas. Gareth Jones and Aaron Chervenak, starting next month, will begin a 9000km trip from Brazil’s most northern point to its most southern point. The duo will photodocument and video their expedition as they kayak, hike and bike to traverse the country over a span of 15 months. The trip will provide an anthropological glimpse of Brazilians, which could potentially be used in educational programming. Tuanis!
A new effort between the world’s best known jaguar conservation organization, Panthera, and the government of Costa Rica will help protect the creatures in several Latin American countries. The agreement will ensure that jaguars are able to travel freely through Central and South America by protecting their natural habitats and ensuring that the animals are not hunted by farmers or poachers.
Several weeks ago we posted an article in Links We Like that discussed Costa Rica’s lack of street signage. The country has long relied on landmarks to orient, often using statements like “100 meters northeast from the gas station” for addresses. Now though, it seems things are changing. The mayor of San Jose, Johnny Araya, has ordered 22 thousand street signs posted throughout the central district of the city over the next six months.
