Surf’s up with Pedro Montero and OBCR!

Did you know that Outward Bound Costa Rica is the only OB school with an extensive surf program? It comes as no surprise then to hear that surfing is one of our most popular activity areas among our students. For that reason, Outward Bound Costa Rica employs only the best and most qualified instructors to teach our participants the fundamentals of surfing and how having the ability to overcome challenges faced by the waves can helps students to overcome challenges faced in everyday life. During his three years with OBCR, Pedro has worked mostly with our Girl Scouts destinations program, venturing with them to Playa Manuel Antonio and Avellanas to catch some of the best waves. He’s a surfing fanatic and can’t wait to get out on course and teach students this summer!

About Pedro

Pedro grew up with his twin brother Paulo and has lived in Costa Rica his entire life. His passion for nature and surfing led him to seek out a job with OBCR where he could constantly enjoy the outdoors instead of being stuck in an office all day. He is fascinated about new cultures and being able to learn new things each day while working with students. Pedro says working with the new students is always entertaining. He gets to meet some funny people along the way, which makes for even more enjoyable experiences!

Aside from working with OBCR, Pedro also runs his own coffee franchise. His coffee, Organo Gold, which he exports to several countries, is currently from Brazil but he plans on getting traditional Costa Rican coffee added to his franchise in the next few years.

When he is not instructing courses with OBCR or managing his franchise, Pedro can be found running triathlons. He recently partook in the Ironman 70.3 Mile race in Panama and is constantly running what he describes as a ‘little’ 31km trail close to the OBCR base to prepare for his next race. When asked what countries he would visit if he could, Pedro said its not a question of if, it’s a question of when. Pedro plans to visit Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii in the future.
