Our Outdoor Leader Semester students recently completed the rafting phase of their course, spending several days forging the Pejibaye and Sarapiqui rivers while learning about the leadership elements of raft guiding.
“Changing rivers was awesome because we got to see the differences between them,” said Pedro S. from Caracas, Venezuela.
Their exploration of the rivers included a mixture of braving rushing rapids and enjoying the natural beauty during more tranquil sections.
“It was very physically demanding, but I liked it a lot,” Pedro added. “It was very leadership focused and I liked the river in general.”
“It was an adrenaline rush,” said Brooke F. from Saskatchewan, Canada. “You get on the river and there’s water spraying in your face. I’m the kind of person who likes that.”
For Billy W. of Long Island, New York, the raft phase was his favorite part of course thus far.
“Guiding my group through the rapids was epic,” Billy said.
The students are on course for 65 days earning certifications that cultivate their leadership skills and give them unique inside into the field of outdoor education. The students are now travelling to Playa Avellanas, a beach community in Costa Rica where they will spend a week learning to surf.
