This past week Outward Bound Costa Rica had the opportunity to share a day on course with writers from Pink Pangea, a community for women who love to travel and write.
Nine women from across the United States and Canada traveled with Pink Pangea to Costa Rica for a Yoga & Writing Retreat facilitated by Jaclyn Mishal, Pink Pangea’s co-founder. The group spent seven days getting up close and personal with their writing, practicing yoga, and exploring Costa Rica.
During their day on course with Outward Bound Costa Rica, the women journeyed through the Central Valley past waterfalls and lush rainforest for a whitewater rafting expedition the Sarapiquí River.
On the banks of the river they spent time with Jim Rowe, Executive Director and Founder, Debra Woolley, Director of Communications & Marketing, Danny Jimenez, Director of Programming & Operations, and Lauren Salisbury, Marketing & Media Manager to learn more about the history of Outward Bound Costa Rica and the Outward Bound philosophy. After a safety briefing from Bailey Palmer, a former student and current instructor, the group received an overview of raft commands and embarked down the La Virgen section of the river to conquer thrilling rapids.
While on the river the group also had the opportunity to swim in the fresh water, learn about the flora and fauna of the area, and discuss how the river can be viewed as a metaphor for challenges in life.
Several participants even braved the rapids in an inflatable kayak, captained by Jim.
The group ended the day at a local soda, a typical Costa Rican restaurant, to learn more about our Summer Expeditions, Gap Year & Semester Programs, Girl Scout Destinations and Group Programs while enjoying a traditional lunch of casados and cup of local coffee.
A special thanks to Pink Pangea Retreat participants for joining us. We had a roaring time sharing an Outward Bound Costa Rica adventure with you and wish you best of luck in your writing!
