Rainforest Hike & Homestay #3 Update- July 18th

Rainforest Hike & Homestay started on the trail Sunday heading only a few feet away to our local reserve where they geared up to complete their first service project. During the service project students teamed together as they shoveled and raked away scattered debris throughout the trails while learning about the importance of preserving the environment. After constructing a clear pathway students headed back to the dorms where instructors Diego and Zach guided them on how to correctly assemble their backpacks for the trek ahead. Monday an early Costa Rican sun awoke students as they loaded their bags to begin the first leg of their journey to Piedras Blancas  Naranjo Abajo. At Naranjo Abajo is where they began the journey to Piedras Blancas over rolling hills and thick cloud forest in anticipation of their first homestay. On Wednesday students arrived at the magda homestay for their first taste of a fresh hot Costa Rican meal. After under a night under the clear skies they headed back into the forest, but this time under close supervision of their instructors as they put their hiking skills to the test in a solo expedition. Today they will make their way to the loving Lopez homestay full of energy and joy where they will harvest their own sugarcane using a traditional trapiche and learn many more valuable lessons along the way. The students will round out their hike portion of their adventure on Monday and head to Manuel Antonio National Park for lessons on sea turtles and a refreshing dip in the water!
