Pacific Surf & Cert Extension #2
After a week of surfing on the beautiful Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the seven students on Pacific Surf & Cert Extension #2 completed their Summer Expeditions this past weekend. After their 3 or 5-week adventure, they are heading home with new experiences and skills, including surfing and First Aid/CPR training.
“The instructors taught me a lot about reading waves and patience. They made the trip worth it for me,” said Connor H. from Concord, New Hampshire.
“I chose Outward Bound Costa Rica to learn new things about myself and push myself,” said Chelsea S. of Short Hills, New Jersey. “Surf was awesome; it was thrilling and relaxing at the same time.”

Caribbean Scuba & Service #3
The twelve students on the final Caribbean Scuba & Service course spent their first week earning their scuba diving certifications in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Three of the students completed the advanced scuba diver course which included a deep dive, navigational dive, a night dive, and more. On the night dive, students saw bioluminescence from plankton in the water.
The group stayed on the island of Solarte and took a boat off to different dive sites nearby every day and went wake boarding in the afternoons. This week they started their sea kayaking expedition, which will take them to new communities in Bocas del Toro. Their final destination will be San San Pond Sak for the sea turtle conservation project.
Rainforest Hike & Homestay #4
The six students on the final Rainforest Hike & Homestay left for their week-long hike through the Costa Rican rainforest last Wednesday after a zipline canopy tour and whitewater rafting, among other activities. They are nearing the end of their trek and visits to the remote homestays of Piedras Blancas.
After walking through clouds high up in the mountains and engaging themselves in rural Costa Rican culture with traditional activities like harvesting sugar cane and making bread, the group’s next destination will be Manuel Antonio beach on the Pacific coast. They will enjoy the sun and warm water as their final phase of course.
