Tri-Country students are stepping up their game and moving across the country! They arrived at the beautiful palm-lined Caribbean Coast 11 days ago to start their 24 day hike across Costa Rica. They arrived and crossed the indigenous reserve, seeing many animals and celebrating with locals. They’ve learned about the history of banana plantations along the Caribbean Coast, a broader history of Costa Rica, local indigenous populations, shamans, traditional Tico food, Tico culture, the Pejibaye plant, Cloud forests, and the role of the coffee bean in Costa Rica. Yesterday, they stayed at a small farm in a cloud forest where they saw first hand the traditional sugar cane processing called Trapiche.
We wish them luck tomorrow as they hike up to Tavanos – the hardest day of the hike!
