Two Girl Scouts Troops have joined us in the past few days to respectively participate in a Rainforest & Culture Custom Program and a Panama Service Custom Expedition.
The Girl Scouts Troop 31655, with 11 participants from Nothern California, will hike 16km in total, as they discover the Piedras Blancas National Park, following a route that a few privileged hikers get to see and experience. They will be housed by one of our homestay families and enjoy a stay at an open-air, sustainable rainforest home. The troop will get the chance to learn how to cook traditional meals before waterfall rappelling, making sugar with a trapiche and tortillas from harvested corn the following day.
They will also get the opportunity to learn about conservation at the Rancho Tinamu Rainforest Lodge, work together with the local community on service projects and explore the Manuel Antonio National Park.
The last part of their trip will be spent boogie boarding, whitewater rafting and discovering the San Jose market.
The Girl Scouts Troop 30640, with 6 girls from 16 to 17 years old and two chaperones from California, will for their part take their trip to San San Pond Sack in Panama to help protect endangered sea turtles. The service project includes a great deal of interactions with the local community.
The group will then spend the day sea kayaking around the 68-island of Bocas del Toro and snorkel the spectacular shallow reefs, explore mangroves and try wakeboarding.
They will have days filled with whitewater rafting, ziplining, visiting the cultural attractions of San Jose and visiting spectacular beaches on the Carribbean Coast of Costa Rica.
We wish these two Girl Scouts Troops the best on these two well-rounded programs in Costa Rica and Panama!
