Maia received her first camera at the age of nine years old. She studied darkroom and digital photography at Buxton High School, a boarding school in Williamstown, Massachusetts. It was there that she began to develop an eye for photography, as well as a need for exploration. She majored in Journalism and Photography for three years with high hopes of becoming a professional travel/culture photographer, and to leave school with a better understanding of art as a whole. After realizing that traditional schooling was not the path for her, she began to delve into freelance work to build experiences she would need for the “real” world. This photography quest led her to Alajuela, Costa Rica in 2016 where she helped document an Ayurveda yoga retreat.
Maia loves to create, learn, and become inspired by the people around her. She enjoys photographing shared everyday experiences with those around her in hopes of finding new ways to capture who they are. She’s excited and grateful to work with Outward Bound Costa Rica as the Communication & Marketing Intern and hopes to return home with new marketing and Spanish skills.
