Welcome, Tri-Country Students!

Welcome, Tri-Country Students!

Bienvenidos, estudiantes de Tri-Country! We’re excited to welcome our first semester students for this fall. The group of nine arrived to our base in Tres Rios on Friday and have been settling in and getting to know each other. They all have unique and interesting motives for joining us for 85 days of adventure, including the backpacking expedition from coast to coast that this course boasts… Read more about each one of our new students below!

A great shot our of newly arrived Tri-Country students and their instructor, Donna, atop Irazú Volcano.

Tyler

19 years old, Alberta, Canada
Tyler is studying Economics at Queen’s University and decided to take a year off to travel, seek adventure and learn. Having an older sister as one of our Tri-Country Semester alum and being an OB alum himself, Tyler knew he’d enjoy all that this course has to offer. He’s looking to take away some strong friendships and good stories.

Kacie

24 years old, Arkansas, USA
Kacie attended an Outward Bound course in Utah back in 2007 where she spent three weeks rafting, hiking and rappelling. Even though it was one of the hardest things she’s ever had to do by herself, she loved it. Recently Kacie has been looking for a similar, yet more challenging experience, and hence decided to join us for a Semester course here in Costa Rica.

Mike

20 years old, Maryland, USA
Mike jumped at the idea of exploring the great outdoors with a group of his peers. He sees the challenges of hiking, surfing, whitewater rafting and SCUBA diving as an opportunity to build character and help him make his decisions as to what to study in the future. He is amped for all aspects of being in Costa Rica…expressing his enthusiasm for meditation and exercise on a regular basis.

Stephanie

19 years old, California, USA
Stephanie is looking for “something different” this semester, which is why she’s joining us for our Tri-Country course. She loves hiking and kayaking but has never tried surfing or SCUBA diving. She knows this change will help her learn and grow as a person. Stephanie is also really looking forward to building on her level of Spanish and learn more about Costa Rican culture.

Noah

18 years old, Washington, USA
Noah didn’t want to spend this year in between high school and college on “just a vacation or study abroad program” – he was looking for an adventure! Noah explained to us that he is an experiential learner and is excited for the range of activities on course, especially rafting and surfing. Fortunately for Noah, the idea of giving up all electronics and Facebook for 85 days doesn’t phase him.

Gray

19 years old, South Carolina, USA
Gray has been to Costa Rica before and loves everything the country has to offer, including practicing Spanish with the locals and improving his language skills. Gray is also looking forward to the challenges on course, especially with surfing, kayaking and rafting phases. He is hoping to take this time away from school to learn to appreciate more what he has.

Monroe

17 years old, Arizona, USA
Monroe is excited to explore Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua during this Tri-Country Semester course. He knows the importance of cultural immersion and likes the idea of being outside of the US. He knows that learning to backpack, surf and SCUBA dive will be great skills for the future.

Geoff

20 years old, Ontario, Canada
Geoff developed a love of traveling the world at a young age. He’s had some interesting and rewarding experiences abroad previously, including a service-focused trip to Laos. Geoff is ready to be pushed physically and mentally and to push his boundaries through the challenges he’ll face on course.

Kristen

21 years old, British Columbia, Canada
Kristen is looking to increase and build upon her outdoor and leadership skills through our Tri-Country course. She is a big fan of the outdoors, and in 2010, she hiked Kilimanjaro! She is excited to complete this course and regain the feeling of accomplishment she gained from that incredible journey.
