Coast to Coast Expedition Semester Student Update: December 2nd

DSC00476 Our Fall 2015 Coast to Coast Expedition Semester students are nearing the end of their 85-day adventure in Costa Rica and Panama. This past week the group returned to our rainforest base in Costa Rica from Bocas del Toro, Panama where they went on a sea kayaking expedition around several islands and learned to scuba dive. jacob kayaking “I felt like it was a pretty integral experience — seeing the beach city life in Bocas del Toro and then the indigenous communities on some of the islands,”said Amos P. from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. “There was also always time at night to sit on our dock and enjoy sunset.” “It’s a really Caribbean lifestyle in Panama,” added Conor R. from San Marcos, California. “We were sleeping on a dock on an island. I slept in a hammock and enjoyed myself.” bocas sea turtles Jacob S. from Brookline, Massachusetts said he enjoyed the flow of the time in Panama. “We would get up, go scuba dicing in the morning, go wakeboarding in the afternoon and then watch sunset,” he said. Scuba diving the coral reefs to get up-close views of tropical fish proved to be a highlight for many in the group. group scuba experience “It was a lot of fun,” said Mac B. from Saskatoon, Canada. “We learned how to scuba dive. There was a giant manta ray [under the water].” “We got to see things we couldn’t see from the surface,” added Josh N. from Cambridge, Massachusetts regarding the scuba experience. “We got to explore a different environment which was really cool.” snorkel The group is currently learning to surf Costa Rica’s world-famous, warm-water breaks and exploring several beaches throughout the country.
