Introducing the Leadership Students, 2013: Working together to climb to the top!
Hank hails from Malaysia, where he decided he wanted to obtain certifications in outdoor leadership. After doing an Outward Bound course in Malaysia, he developed a love for white water rafting. In Costa Rica, he hopes to learn more about the Tico culture and receive as many outdoor certifications as possible.
All the way from Mexico City, Pablo joins Outward Bound Costa Rica’s Leadership Semester after completing three Outward Bound courses in Costa Rica, Scotland and the United States! He has plans to study in the United States, but is currently looking forward to getting field experience, aspiring to become an Outward Bound instructor. Pablo is most looking forward to the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification because it will be of greatest challenge to him personally.
Lisa comes to Outward Bound Costa Rica from Salem, Ohio after planning for some time to get away from her traditional desk job. Being outside makes her happy, so she decided to follow her bliss to Outward Bound Costa Rica. After completing several outdoor leadership programs in the US, her desire to become a leader in the outdoors was solidified. Lisa is most looking forward to the backpacking phase, and exploring the native plants and animals. Since this is her first trip outside North America, Lisa is also looking forward to the intercultural immersion while living in Costa Rica.
Ben left Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in order to gain new skills on the Outward Bound Costa Rica Leadership Semester course. Currently a student of criminology at the University of Oklahoma, Ben is most looking forward to being immersed in a new culture and having access to ripe bananas.
Kathryn comes to Outward Bound from York, England where she grew up. “Kat” was inspired as a teenager to complete an Outward Bound trip, and was changed forever in the way she viewed life. She hopes to affect people in the same way that Outward Bound affected her. Kat aims to complete all certifications and access OBCR’s top notch internship program over the summer. One day she aspires to be a lead instructor for Outward Bound.
AJ joins us from Tucson, Arizona in the US, where he had been on two Outward Bound courses for rafting, backpacking and canoeing. AJ aims to gain certifications and experience in the Outdoor industry before moving forward. He is most looking forward to scuba diving and surfing because he loves the ocean.
Hailing from Long Island, New York, Roger is on the Outward Bound Costa Rica Leadership Semester in order to conquer the challenges inherent to outdoor ventures in the rainforest. He has experience in white water rafting from Utah and Colorado excursions, but is now hoping to learn more about the rivers of Costa Rica as well as its people.
Victor joins us from Stockholm, Sweden, where he had previously gone on five Outward Bound courses including the Tri-Country semester with Outward Bound Costa Rica. He is looking forward to new friendships and some cool scars, not to mention the challenge of the hiking phase.
Max joins us from Nevada City, California with hopes of changing his life through the Leadership Semester, especially by using this experience as a foundation for figuring out what he hopes to do in the future. After going out on backpacking excursions with youth groups, he decided that getting certifications would help him better narrow down what his true calling is in life. Max hopes to study Marine Biology in college. He most looks forward to the WFR course because it is such an accomplishment in his eyes.
Armand comes to Costa Rica from Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada looking for a new challenge. With experience in sports and leadership, Armand looks forward to gaining outdoor-specific leadership skills. He is currently studying psychology and business in Surrey. Surfing is something Armand has always wanted to learn, but he most looks forward to the scuba diving part of the Leadership Semester.
