There are so many wonderful reasons to visit the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. Here are a few from the OBCR crew!

1. The People

Often referred to as ‘Ticos’, they are friendly, polite, and have mastered the art of joy. They approach life with a patient attitude and play a huge importance on family and community. Therefore, it’s no surprise, they are known as some of the happiest people in the World!

2. Endless Adventure

Whether you want to hike through the tropical rainforests, see the underwater magic that the ‘rich coast’ has to offer, or raft through the scenic valleys and gorges, this country has it all. Outdoor adventure is one of the main reasons why people visit Costa Rica. There is an abundance of natural attractions. For instance, you can zipline over the vast jungle one day and rappel down an 80-foot waterfall the next.

3. Awesome Animals

As one of the 20 most biodiverse countries in the World, Costa Rica is home to over 250 species of mammals. One adorable creature that has grown in popularity is the sloth. They are known as perezosos (“lazy”) but did you know that they only actually sleep for about 10 hours per day. This 3-toed sloth can turn it’s head nearly 360 degrees and can live up to 40-years-old. A long time ago, these tiny tree dwellers used to roam the ground, weighed several tons, and reached 20 feet in length—just picture the size of an elephant

4. Pristine Beaches

There are many other reasons why people visit Costa Rica, such as the sparkling white sands and beautiful turquoise bays. Surrounded by lowland rainforests, Costa Rica’s beaches are a perfect setting to relax, swim, snorkel, and jump for joy! The ocean also provides some of the best surfing in the World!

5. Football

Did you know that the Costa Rican national team reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2014! One of their local teams, ‘Deportivo Saprissa’, is located around 10-15 minutes outside the city centre of San Jose and you can get tickets for as cheap as 2,000 colones (just over $4!). Their ‘die hard’ fans – La Ultra Morada (The Purple Ultra) are located on the south side of the stadium and create an exciting atmosphere inside the grounds.

There are many other reasons to visit Costa Rica, but do you need any more?
