Week of August 11th: Open Enrollment Course Update

The final group of the summer wraps up their last week on course!

OPEN ENROLLMENT

Panama Service Expedition

This week started at sea as the students traversed the tides of Bocas del Toro in their kayaks. Whenever the group came ashore, a new community welcomed them! The group taught First Aid and CPR and bonded with the young students in the community—equipping them with lifesaving skills for their future. The group started the eleventh day on course by transferring to the Panamanian village of San San Pond Sak where they assisted in conservation efforts of the endangered sea turtle populations. Every year, hundreds of thousands of turtles arrive to these shores in an event known locally as the arribada. Biologists and volunteers work year-round to ensure that each season brings a healthy addition to the populations of the turtles. The students stayed in San San Pond Sak for three days to learn the techniques biologists employ and practice them in the field! The end of the turtle conservation phase is today; it marks the end of the course and also the end of our summer season! Tomorrow, the group will fly home to tell their tales to friends and family.

A big congratulations to each student that rose to the challenge, grew personally, discovered new cultures, and had a blast with us in the rainforests, rivers and reefs of Costa Rica and Panama. Welcome to the OBCR Alumni family! It has been a great summer and we look forward to what the rest of the year brings!
